2025 Open Day 

Coleridge Downs - Dry Acheron Station

It was a pleasure to host a diverse group of farmers and representatives from across the industry. The day was aimed to provide insight into the full Lumina value chain that’s underpinned by the Headwaters breeding program. 


We heard from our breeding manager Tara Dwyer and a Headwaters Farmer, Charlie Johns. We had James McWilliam from Alliance speak on global sales and Professor Hamish Gow from Lincoln University on consumer trends. Chef Brent Martin, Executive Chef at the Park Hyatt Auckland also joined us to speak on the performance of Lumina in the kitchen.

2024 Ram Sale 

Coleridge Downs - Dry Acheron Station

Late November we held our annual ram sale at Dry Acheron, Coleridge Downs. We had a big turnout; the rams were in top condition and the weather was perfect. The average liveweight of what was presented for sale was 88kg! We were able to catch up with our suppliers and meet some of those who wanted to know more about our program.

 

We invited along a group of chefs from Canterbury that cook with Lumina in their restaurants to watch how farmers select their rams. Our team helped them understand the journey Headwaters breeding program has been on and what a ram's role is on farm. They got amongst the pens and learned about what to look for in a well-structured ram. 

 

The chefs then laid out the Webers and took part in a cook off for our farmers. Each taking different cuts of Lumina and making the tastiest nibbles for our farmers.  

 

It was a special day and highlighted the unique value chain we have in the program. Our farmers loved meeting the chefs and showing them where the Lumina product begins its journey.
